The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group operates a lifeline passenger and freight service to the remote Isles of Scilly, 28 miles off the coast of Cornwall. A company steeped in history, we have been at the heart of island life since we were founded in 1920.

We pride ourselves in safely and efficiently transporting passengers and freight to and from the islands via our fleet of ships and aircraft. We also operate an airport at Land’s End. As well as allowing islanders to live and conduct their business, we are a cornerstone to the islands’ main source of revenue – tourism.

With more than 200 skilled employees, including pilots, marine crew and engineers, we are one of West Cornwall’s biggest employers. We still have descendants of the founding directors serving the Group today. Throughout it all, our aim has always been the same: to deliver for Scilly.

The Isles of Scilly sit in the Atlantic Ocean at the point where the English Channel meets the Celtic Sea. They are also the first place the Gulf Stream makes landfall. The islands enjoy an early spring and warm summers which attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year from all over the world.

However, as a transport provider it is the islands’ geography that causes many of the challenges we must overcome due to changing weather patterns and tidal movements.

New vessels

We are steering a course to take both our business and the islands into the future. Our current passenger and freight vessels will be replaced in 2026. Once the ship builds are complete, we will be ready for a new generation of services to the Isles of Scilly and with that comes an improvement in the quality of life for many residents.
