A note of thanks from our CEO, Stuart Reid
As we come to the close of an eventful and inspiring year, I want to extend my thanks to all our customers, islanders, and suppliers. Your support and trust continue to shape everything we do, and it remains a privilege to serve this community.
This year has seen significant progress across our services. A major milestone for us has been the ongoing construction of our new vessels in Vietnam, which represent the future of our sea links to the Isles of Scilly. These vessels will deliver improved comfort, resilience, and reliability for decades to come. Menawethan, our new 45m freight ship, was launched at the end of October and commissioning work is now well underway. Sea trials will begin in the new year, before she is delivered in spring.

Scillonian IV, our next-generation passenger ferry, is now in the final stages of the build process before she is launched. She will enter service in 2027. In the meantime, Scillonian III will continue serving passengers through 2026, her final season, with regular maintenance ensuring she remains dependable while our new vessels are completed.

Alongside this, the expansion of our aviation fleet through the addition of another DHC6-300 Twin Otter aircraft, the first in a decade, reflects the Group’s pledge to invest in all areas of our business.
The aircraft will operate under a multi-year agreement between Skybus and Aurigny Air Services of Guernsey, to and from the island of Alderney, serving the Guernsey and Southampton routes. Our partnership with Aurigny not only enhances operational resilience but also demonstrates the Group’s commitment to reliable, sustainable transport links for island communities.

At the end of November, we were proud to launch the essential air service between Cornwall Airport Newquay and London Gatwick – an important link for residents, tourists, and businesses alike. Skybus was awarded the Public Service Obligation (PSO) contract by Cornwall Council and is now operating daily flights.

We were honoured to be named Business of the Year at the 2025 Maritime UK Awards, a milestone moment in the Group’s 105-year history and recognition of the hard work and dedication of our teams. The Steamship Group was one of just four companies shortlisted following a record number of entries chosen after a rigorous judging process led by a panel of 15 industry leaders.
In a moment of national excitement, BBC Radio 1’s visit to Land’s End Airport, with Skybus flying presenter Greg James, put a national spotlight on our aviation operations and the Isles of Scilly
As we celebrate the year’s successes, we also pause to remember those we have lost, members of our community, colleagues, and friends who remain part of our history and in our hearts.
Thank you for travelling with us, supporting us, and being part of our journey. We look forward to serving you in the year ahead and continuing to strengthen the vital lifeline between the Isles of Scilly and the mainland.
Warmest wishes for the season,
Stuart Reid | Chief Executive Officer
