Gry Maritha and Scillonian III for sale

With the excitement of new vessels on the horizon, we also must look carefully and responsibly towards the future of Gry Maritha and Scillonian III.

A new and exciting chapter for the Isles of Scilly and its transport network is about to begin with the introduction into service of Menawethan in June 2026 followed by Scillonian IV in March 2027. As with any new chapter another must end. It is with a mixture of pride, gratitude, and no small amount of emotion that we write to inform you that today, Friday 13th February, both Gry Maritha and Scillonian III will be placed on the market.

For generations, these vessels have been far more than ships. They have been lifelines carrying freight, post, provisions and vehicles; transporting families, visitors and returning islanders whilst also supporting businesses. They are woven into the fabric of island life and hold a very special place in the hearts of many.

In recent weeks, we have appointed and have been working with independent specialist brokers, Simsonship, who we will partner with on the sale process.

As we modernise our fleet to secure the long-term resilience, reliability, and sustainability of sea links to the islands, in doing so, we are deeply conscious of the history and legacy of the ships that have served us so faithfully. Over the coming months, our commemorative season will provide an opportunity for the community, visitors, former crew and all those with a connection to these ships to celebrate their extraordinary contribution. We look forward to sharing moments of reflection, stories, and gratitude together.

We recognise that this news may bring mixed emotions, Gry Maritha and Scillonian III have shaped journeys, livelihoods and memories across decades. As we prepare to honour them, we do so with sincere thanks for all they have given to Scilly.
