Launch a Career at Sea – Fully Sponsored Cadetships Available
Cadet – Deck / Engine / Electro-Technical

Are you – or someone in your family – looking for an exciting, well-paid career with travel, responsibility, and internationally recognised qualifications?
The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group is offering two fully sponsored cadetships starting in September 2025 – open to local school or college leavers looking to train as a professional seafarer in one of three disciplines:
- Deck Officer – navigation, vessel operations, and shipboard leadership
- Engineering Officer – onboard mechanical and electrical systems
- Electro-Technical Officer – shipboard electronics, communications and control systems
This is a three-year programme combining time at sea and academic study, designed to prepare cadets for long-term careers in the Merchant Navy.

- Deck Cadet: FdSc Marine Operations + STCW II/1 OOW (Unlimited)
- Engineering Cadet: FdSc Marine Engineering + STCW III/1 OOW (Unlimited)
- Electro-Technical Cadet: FdSc Marine Electrical & Electronic Engineering + STCW III/6 ETO CoC
These are internationally recognised qualifications that can take you all over the world – or bring you back to work with us.
Who Can Apply?
We’re particularly keen to support young people from Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. To apply, you must:
- Be aged 16 or over
- Hold 4 GCSEs (Grade 4–9) including Maths, English and one Science
- Have at least 48 UCAS points (e.g. A-levels or equivalent – preferably including Maths and/or Physics)
- Be able to pass an ENG1 medical (to show you’re fit for seagoing work)
- Have the right to work in the UK
