The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group is looking to appoint an island based non-executive director
Our vision is “Delivering for Scilly” which means that keeping our finger on the pulse of the islands’ needs is central to everything we do. After completing his 9 years on the Board Sam Hicks (St Agnes) will cease to be a Director at the forthcoming AGM. We are looking for someone to take his seat and represent the interests of the islands and their communities, ensuring we never lose sight of that vision.
The person appointed will join Steve Hicks (St Mary’s) and Andrew Walder (St Martin’s) as well as the mainland-based Directors.
We are looking for someone who has an interest in business and is willing to learn how the company, which has over 800 shareholders, operates. The board is responsible for the strategic direction of the company and for its governance. A willingness to contribute to board discussions in an open collaborative way is critical. As a board we value constructive challenge. This culture of transparency and integrity has contributed to the fortunes of the company in recent years, and we want that to continue.
The board meets formally in person around six times a year but additional meetings, typically by zoom, are not uncommon for ad hoc situations as they arise. Directors also sit on the company’s various committees.
We would expect the person appointed to also attend representative meetings on the islands with stakeholder groups from time to time.
The position is remunerated (£12,000 per annum) reflecting the commitment of time and experience required.
